Each string orchestra instrument has its own method of proper sizing. At PM Music Center, we want to ensure that we provide you with the correct size. PM Music Center renters can size up or down at absolutely no cost. Children will grow and need larger, full-sized instruments. We do not recommend purchasing until the player is ready for a full-sized instrument.

Below are instructions and charts to help guide you in selecting the proper orchestra instrument size.

Violin

1. Have the player stand straight-up with the left arm extended to the side at shoulder height.
2. Make sure the player’s left arm is fully extended without any bend.
3. Gently place a tape measure or yardstick to the side of the student’s neck.
4. Measure to the middle of the student’s left palm.
5. Reference the chart below to find the appropriate sized instrument.
