Troy Smith is a versatile and passionate music instructor offering private guitar and clarinet lessons in Naperville and Aurora. A 2024 graduate of Lake Forest College, Troy holds dual bachelor's degrees in Music and Neuroscience. He began his musical journey at age ten with the clarinet and has since expanded his expertise to include saxophone and guitar, performing in a variety of ensembles throughout his academic career.
Troy brings a unique blend of classical training, contemporary influences, and academic insight to his teaching. He has taught music theory and clarinet at both the high school and college levels, making him well-equipped to guide students through everything from foundational skills to advanced techniques.
Troy's diverse musical interests, from classical and jazz to heavy metal and microtonal music, inform his dynamic and engaging teaching style. In his final semester, he collaborated with renowned composer James M. Stephenson, composing and conducting an original work performed by a college ensemble.
His experience as a composer, conductor, and performer allows him to provide students with a comprehensive and creative music education. Whether you're a beginner picking up the guitar for the first time or an intermediate clarinet player preparing for auditions, Troy offers personalized in-person and virtual lessons tailored to each student’s goals and interests.
